AMIGO can grab, lift and move objects using two Philips robotic arms. These arms have seven degrees of freedom, the same number of degrees human arms have. Six degrees of freedom are required to allow the grabber to reach its desired position and orientation, the seventh degree is used to avoid collisions with obstacles between the robot and the object it is trying to grasp. This way AMIGO can, for example, grab a cup that’s places behind something else.
