There weren’t enough seats at Tech United’s fan evening in their own RoboCup stadium on Thursday 16 June. Every place was taken, and there was standing room only with a crowd of spectators all eager to see the latest developments in this year’s robot soccer team. These included an all-new keeper, combining a camera, lasers and an X-box Kinect sensor to keep a clear view of the ball. This already led to a good result in the first match of the year: Tech United took first place at the Germany open championship in April, with an impressive score of 105 for and 7 against.
Tech United also used the fan evening to show their new ‘care robot’ AMIGO, which will be there at the World Championships in Istanbul taking part in a competition for performing household tasks.
One of the highlights of the fan evening was a goal shooting competition between the youth teams of the VV Acht, VV Vessem and RKVV Menos (Landhortst) soccer clubs and the robot team. The robots managed to shoot the ball into the round goal openings a total of six times, while the youth team players had a zero sore, although they came close many times.
