Today AMIGO finally got the chance to show what he could do. The team was looking anxiously towards the first challenge. A total of 19 teams subscribed for the competition which started with the 'registration challenge'. During this challenge the AMIGO must register himself at the judges table and the team captain has to give a short presentation.
Tech United had the honor to start off the second group late in the afternoon. After starting the challenge AMIGO made no fuss about his appearance on stage and drove immediately and accurately towards the judges table. Unfortunately his arms were still broken, so he could not give the registration form to the judges himself. His voice nevertheless sounded through the speakers loud and clear; “I am AMIGO and I would like to register myself and my team Tech United Eindhoven for the RoboCup @Home competition”. After his speech it was time to test the safety measures on AMIGO. In order to do this the judge has to press the emergency button. The first attempt failed because the judge didn’t press hard enough. The second attempt however succeeded. With the safety now proven to be good, the AMIGO autonomously left the arena. Janno Lunenburg was finishing the presentation with a presentation about the AMIGO project and related projects at TU/e.
Although the challenge looked nice, the team still had doubts. These doubts were proven wrong when the scores were published and AMIGO was placed 7th out of 19 teams. The team has high expectations for the next few challenges, and we believe that the AMIGO may keep its top ten placement.
