A fresh day dawned at RoboCup 2024 in Eindhoven, and the excitement was palpable. As the weekend unfolded, a steady stream of visitors arrived early in the morning. Families with children, curious tech enthusiasts, and passionate supporters braved the sun and warmth to be part of this incredible event.
Their encouragement was more than welcome, as Tech United could use every cheer it could get. Today
was D-day: the match results would determine whether we’d make it to the finals tomorrow.
In the afternoon, @Home had a second chance to score points in the Stickler challenge. This discipline tested whether the team’s robot could accurately follow up on house rules. The rules included not wearing shoes indoors and everyone holding a drink. Hero was tasked with applying these rules and recognizing when they were incorrectly followed. The challenge went better than the morning session, with the team earning more than half the available points—a great achievement! By the end of the day, the @Home team’s effort secured them fourth place out of nine participants. No finale, but absolutely a great result!
At 2:00 PM, it was time for BigHeroX’s rematch, the same opponent from yesterday. The atmosphere was charged after an intense match between Falcons and Toulon. Within a minute, Tech United scored their first goal. This action set the tone! It became a match full of speed, bumping, and many goals, but also setbacks, particularly for BigHeroX. Initially, four Tech United robots faced off against three from BigHeroX, but at some point, both teams played with just two bots. Compared to yesterday's match, Tech United had successfully implemented improvements, while BigHeroX encountered more challenges. Despite that, it was a great game to report on, according to presenter Lieven Scheire and sidekick Peter Teurlings. The final score: 11-0 in favor of Tech United! This brings us to the semifinals on Sunday.
What a day, and not just because of the heat! We are happy with @Home’s fourth-place finish. As for the MSL competition, they will be competing in the semifinals on the tournament’s final day.
For fans of live-action, set your alarms! At 9 AM, Tech United will face off against VDL Robot Sports. Right after, at 10 AM, the second semifinal between Falcons and BigHeroX will start. And who knows, perhaps Tech United will make it to the finals? In any case, don't miss it; we hope to see you at 1:00 PM!
